Mary Melvin is Associate Professor of Physics and an advisor in the BSBS program. Professor Melvin holds a Masters of Education from the University of Central Florida, a B.A. from State University College in New York, an A.A. from Nassau Community College, and post graduate credits from the University of Rhode Island. Professor Melvin’s area of practice is curriculum writing and “Misconception in Physics”. She developed the on-line GED science section and the revision of the on-line Physics course for the Florida On-line High School. She was selected to be part of San Diego State University’s “Operation Physics” team and University of Dallas’s “Mechanical Universe” project. Among the honors Professor Melvin has received are ADU Educator of the Year, FHCHS Adjunct Faculty Merit Award, GED: Alternative Education Award, Disney’s Teacherrific Award, Teacher of the Year, Air Force Award, National Demonstration Classroom Instructor, Who’s Who Among High School Teachers, and Peer/Lead Teacher for Orange County. Professor Melvin has held positions on the board of both Central Florida Physics Teachers Association and the Florida Association of Science Teachers. Professor Melvin has lead hands-on workshops for the teachers of Florida and presented reading strategies for learning physics at many conferences. Mary Melvin was initiated into the International Honor Society in Education Kappa Delta Pi in 1988.
