NRSG 490: Health Care: Policy and Access

This course examines 21st century health care delivery in the United States. Economic, organizational, legal, ethical, and historical factors are realistically considered. Assumptions and circumstances leading to the need for reform are reviewed in the context of socio-cultural changes in populations, environmental influences, and public health indicators in a global society. Policy making implications for regulatory change and relevant fiscally responsible approaches to health care delivery are explored by comparing and contrasting systems which focus on health restoration and maintenance. The role of the professional nurse in practice and influential advocacy will permeate discussions in the course.
