Arleen Barker BS, MLS (AAB) is a Medical Laboratory Technologist III at AdventHealth Orlando Hospital in the Microbiology department. She has a passion for patient care, loves science and especially Microbiology. Sharing her knowledge and experience with students is part of her joy in the field.
Arleen earned a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Molecular Biology from the college of Medicine at the University of Central Florida and an Associate of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology from Brevard Community College. Currently, Eastern Florida State College.
She worked as a generalist MLS Technologist at Florida Clinical Laboratory, working in the areas of Clinical Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Hematology, Serology and Microbiology.
She later worked at Holmes Regional Medical Center in their Microbiology department as an MLS Technologist specializing in Microbiology. She worked in the areas of Bacteriology (all benches: Urines, Bloods, Respiratory, Wounds, Surgical cultures, Body fluids, and environmental cultures), Parasitology, Mycology, Microscopy, Mycobacteriology, Serology, Molecular Biology, Virology and Allergen testing. She worked closely with Infectious disease doctors and learned to love Microbiology in all its glory.
She currently works at AdventHealth Orlando in the Microbiology department. Her specialty areas are Bacteriology (all benches: Urines, Bloods, Wounds, Surgical cultures, Body fluids and Respiratory), Parasitology, Molecular Biology, Microscopy and Rapids bench.
