David E. Rivera Acosta, MT(AAB), is a senior Medical Laboratory Scientist with extensive experience in immunohematology, blood banking, and cellular therapy within high complexity clinical laboratory environments. He currently serves at Orlando Health Cancer Institute as part of the Bone Marrow and Cellular Therapy Program, where his work includes processing, cryopreservation, storage, thawing, and infusion of cellular therapy products such as autologous and allogeneic hematopoietic progenitor cells, immune effector cells, and gene therapy products. His roles also encompass procedure development, validation of new instruments and protocols, and interdisciplinary collaboration with physicians, nurses, and transplant coordinators to ensure optimal patient care.
Mr. Rivera Acosta brings a strong background in transfusion medicine gained through prior roles at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and LifeSouth Community Blood Centers, where he performed complex serologic testing, prepared specialized blood products, and supported diverse patient populations including neonates, oncology patients, and pregnant women. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Interamerican University of Puerto Rico and completed specialized training in immunohematology and blood banking. As a faculty member, he is committed to preparing future Medical Laboratory Scientists by emphasizing technical excellence, adherence to regulatory standards, and the critical role of the laboratory in advanced clinical care.
