Biography

Jill Mason was born in Peoria, Illinois where she lived until she was in middle school and then moved to Sao Paulo, Brazil where she completed high school. She came back to the U.S. and became an allergy/immunology technician and EMT medic in the USAF from 1989-1995 and served during the Gulf War.

She earned her BSN in Nursing at the University of Illinois at Chicago, in 1997. She worked in the Kidney, Liver and Pancreas Transplant ICU, then MICU, then CCU before anesthesia school at Evanston Northwestern/DePaul University in Chicago, IL. She became the nurse anesthesia educator for two Level I Trauma/Level III Neonatal Centers in Greenville/Spartanburg, South Carolina. She started a family and began in outpatient surgery centers for the next 12 years while she began teaching paramedics and nursing undergraduate students.

She received her Doctorate in Nurse Anesthesia Practice from Texas Wesleyan University in 2015. She earned her Doctorate in Education and Healthcare Leadership in 2022 from Nebraska Methodist College. She is currently working on her PhD in Nursing at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Jill served as the President of the South Carolina Association of Nurse Anesthetists in 2019-2020 and as the only paid Government Relations Director for SC. Jill has served on the Government Relations Committee for the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists for two years, and a year on the AANA Journal Committee.

She has published three articles, an e-book on healthy policy, and her third article won the Mary Hanna Journalism Award from the Journal of Perianesthesia Nursing (JOPAN) in 2023. She was just selected to be inducted as a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology for her profound contributions to the nurse anesthesia profession.
