Biography

Laura Lopez is an Assistant Professor and the Vice Chair of the Department of Physical Therapy. Dr. Lopez earned her Bachelor of Science in Education degree in Exercise and Sports Science from the University of Georgia, her Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from the University of Miami, and her Doctor of Health Science (DHS) in Educational Leadership from MCPHS University. She has more than 15 years of experience in academic medicine, where she was an acute care manager prior to transitioning to her current role.

Dr. Lopez's areas of practice include acute care, critical care, inpatient, and outpatient cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation. She is a Board Certified Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Clinical Specialist and a level two Credentialed Clinical Instructor. Her teaching and research interests include acute care and interprofessional practice, especially bridging the gap from the classroom to the hospital.

She is an active member in both the Academy of Acute Care Physical Therapy and the Academy of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy through the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) as well as the Florida Physical Therapy Association (FPTA). Dr. Lopez has done multiple poster presentations and served as a conference speaker at a variety of physical therapy conferences hosted by both the APTA and the FPTA.
