Biography

Dr. Walter recently joined Advent Health University to coordinate nursing accreditation processes and to develop a systematic assessment of student learning outcomes across all nursing programs. Her degrees include an ASN from Harford Community College (MD), a BSN from Towson University (MD), an MS in Nursing/Health Policy from the University of Maryland at Baltimore, and a PhD in Nursing from Barry University (FL). Her recent academic experiences include course and program development, accreditation, and quality assurance at the course, program, and institutional levels. She has taught at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate levels of nursing education. Dr. Walter's research developed the theory of Emancipatory Nursing Praxis, a mid-range learning theory explaining how nurses come to know and engage in social justice. She conducts state, national, and international policy analyses on issues adversely impacting vulnerable and marginalized populations. Her policy advocacy also includes nursing practice, education, and research issues. Dr. Walter has published in several peer-reviewed journals and three book chapters and has presented her research and policy analyses at regional, national, and international conferences.
