The Applied Data Analytics Minor

The Applied Data Analytics Minor equips students with essential data analysis skills applicable across various fields such as healthcare, engineering, and technology and explores complex and diverse pathways to visualize patterns, relationships, and trends in the world around us. Professionals trained in applied data analytics play a crucial role in interpreting complex data, identifying trends, and supporting evidence-based decision-making. This minor focuses on developing proficiency in data visualization, statistical analysis, geographic information systems, and ethical considerations in data science. 

Students will gain hands-on experience using real-world datasets and industry-standard tools to translate raw data into actionable insights. The Applied Data Analytics Minor is designed to complement any major by enhancing students’ analytical skills and preparing them for careers in data-driven fields. Graduates of this program will be well-positioned for roles in research, healthcare analytics, public policy, and technology-driven industries.

Admission Guidelines

To be considered for acceptance into the Applied Data Analytics Minor, students must meet the following requirements:

  • Maintain a minimum cumulative college 3.0 GPA on a minimum of 12 college credits.
  • Students must successfully complete the following general education prerequisite courses:
    • ENG 102 or higher – English Composition II (3 credits)
    • STAT 205 or higher – Introduction to Applied Statistics (3 credits)
    • RELP 103 – Philosophy of Healthcare (3 credits) for undergraduate or REL_ for graduate students. 
  • Competitive applicants will be invited to attend an interview. Meeting minimum admissions requirements does not guarantee an invitation for an interview.  Every applicant who wishes to be accepted to the program must complete the interview process. 
  • Meeting the stated requirements does not guarantee acceptance. Admission to the program is determined after the interview process. 
  • Admission to this minor requires students to receive an offer to join the Center of Population Health Research and be assigned a specific research line.

    When to Apply 

    Students must fulfill the prerequisite requirements and/or complete the recommended first-year coursework before applying to the Applied Data Analytics minor. Qualified applicants may apply to the program as early as one semester before their intended enrollment date. All applicants should refer to the application deadlines and corresponding enrollment dates cited below.
